Coaching

We live in a fast changing world that is increasingly volatile, uncertain and complex.  Coaching holds a rare space for each of us, where we can step back from the day to day pressures, to gain fresh perspectives and greater awareness of where we are in our lives, what  we seek and how we want to contribute.  This awareness enables us to recognise our choices with more clarity, and with this clarity comes the opportunity to align our actions with what feels most important and meaningful.

I am an executive coach, which means our coaching focuses primarily on your professional goals.  I have experience coaching individuals from early stage careers to senior leaders.  Prior to founding my own business, I worked in the careers service, the telecoms industry and the chemical sciences.  My experience includes working in the corporate, public and not-for-profit sectors, managing organisational development for teams across Europe, Middle East and Africa and China.   While much of my work has been in science and technology sectors, I have also worked in higher education, both as a Business Mentor with undergraduates, and as a Speaker on the i-Teams Programme at the University of Cambridge.

Integrating my business experience and my therapeutic training, enables me to bring greater psychological depth to our coaching, supporting you to understand more about yourself and your relationships with others, and how this impacts your ability to achieve your professional goals.

Coaching is about collaborating in a thought-provoking and creative process that can raise your awareness of what is most important for you and to identify practical actions towards greater professional fulfilment. Coaching is a non-directive tool, in that the coach helps their client to come up with their own answers, and does not give advice or recommendations.

My coaching approach

I work with you to build clarity on what you want for yourself and how this fits within the bigger picture of your life.  Discovering what is most important to us is a core part of the coaching experience. Our professional goals are not always clear and we sometimes hold competing desires which can leave us feeling stuck.   From this bigger picture, we work together to identify what you want to develop and how you will be able to assess your progress.  During sessions, we explore how  you currently experience your situation.  We all have habitual patterns of response in how we navigate our lives, and these can result in ‘default’ responses that can become limiting.  Recognising where and how we are limiting ourselves, and what we can do to open up new pathways can be liberating.   Coaching can feel both exciting and unsettling.  It requires curiosity, courage and willingness to be open to experiment and practice.

I typically work with coaching clients for programmes of 6 sessions, and longer term work is also possible.  Sessions tend to be scheduled on a monthly basis, with the client actively engaging in the actions they have set for themselves in between sessions.

I have experience coaching clients on:

  • Developing resilience
  • Managing transitions to senior roles
  • Building a more satisfying and sustainable work/life balance
  • Making a career change
  • Bringing greater purpose and meaning in your working life
